Ryan's Final Percent Post

What is Percent?
A percent means "out of a hundred", Percent can be converted in to fractions or decimals. It can also be shown on a hundred grid.

Representing Percents
There are ways of showing a percent such as a hundred grid, which is a 100 squared box.

Fraction, Decimal and Percent
You can convert percents in to fractions and decimals
Fraction : Decimal:
60%=6/10 50%=0.5
=3/5 50÷100
0.5

Percent of a Number
You can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling, and dividing by 10 to find some of the percents of numbers.
Example:
12.1/2% of 50
12.1/2% =12.5%
=0.125
=0.125 x 50
=6.25

Combining Percents
Percents can be combined by adding to solve problems
Example:

-The total costs of PST and GST taxes
5%+7%= 12%

-4. Chris purchased the following items:
• 2 binders at $4.99 each
• 1 math set for $3.99
• a backpack for $19.99
Find the total cost including 5% GST
and 7% PST.
