Kathryn's Final Percent Post

Percent-means out of 100. Another name for hundredths.
ex. 88% means 88 out of 100 or 88/100 or 0.88 .

4.1 Representing Percents
Means showing a percent as a picture in a hundred grids.
EX: 24% on a hundred grid 24 squares would be shaded, so it is 24%


4.2 Fractions, Decimals,Percents
Fractions, decimals, and percents can be used to represent numbers
in various situations. Percents can be written as fractions and as decimals.

EX: 50%= 0.5= 1/2

4.3 Percent of a Number
Can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling, and dividing by ten to find the percent of some numbers.
To calculate the percent of a number, write the percent as a decimal then multiply by the number.

EX:300% of 2000: 300÷100=3
2000x3=6000

4.4 Combining Percents
Percents can be combined by adding to solve problems.
EX: 5%+6%= 11%

To calculate the increase of a number
You can add the combined amount to the original number.
EX: 12% of 100= 0.12 x 100 =12
100+12=112

You can multiply the original number by a single percent greater than 100.
EX: 112% of 100 = 1.12 x 100
=112

  3. GREAT JOB KATHRYN! I liked how you added in colors to make important words stand-out. Also, you added in a picture and you used examples to explain each section.Nice video. However, you could've added few links to make your post even better. Keep up the good work!
