ANSWER:
a) 420 m. I added the length and width .
b) a²+ b²=c²
300²+120²=c²
(300X300)+(120X120)=c²
90000m²+14400m²=c²
104400m²=c²
√104400m²=c
323.10m=c
c) 420m-323.10= 97.10 m
Maria walked farther by 97.10 meters.
7)
ANSWER :
a²=c²-b²
a²=80²-79²
a²=(80X80)-(79X79)

Cameron's Homework Book Post: pg. 33 Numbers 6,7,8
I have chosen to do questions 6, 7, and 8 in the homework book on page 33.
6. The width of a rectangle is 8cm, and its diagonal is 17cm.
a) Calculate the length of the rectangle. Show your work!
c² - b² = a²
17² - 8² = a²
(17x17) - (8x8) = a²
289cm² - 64cm² = 225cm²
225cm² = c²
√225cm² = √c²
15cm² = c²
7. A quadrilateral has a width of 17cm and a length of 26cm. A diagonal is 31cm. Is the quadrilateral a rectangle? Justify your answer.
a² + b² = c²
26² + 17² = c²
(26x26) + (17x17) = c²
676cm² + 289cm² = 965cm²
965cm² = c²
√965cm² = √c²
31.06cm²
Answer: No, the corners do not meet at right angles because 17² + 26² ≠ 31²
8. A ship leaves port heading due west. After travelling at a speed of 20 km/h for 10h, the ship makes a 90 degree turn and heads south, travelling south for 7.5 h, how far is the ship from the port? Show your work.
20 km/h for 10h west equals 200km
20 km/h for 7.5h south equals 150km
200 km² + 150km²=?
40,000km + 22,500km = 62500km
✓62,500km = 250km²
Answer: The ship is 250km² away from the port.

Pythagoras Textbook Number 15
#15 The coordinate grid shown was drawn on centimetre grid paper. What is the length of line segment AB? Express your answer to the nearest tenth of a centimetre.
Answer:
I got 2 cm for side a and i got 4 cm for side b because i counted the units AB were taking up on the graph paper vertically and horizontally.
PS:
I know i wasn't assigned this scribe but Thessa didn't have the answer so I just wanted share what i got if people were curious about the answer.. I'm not exactly sure if I'm right but there you go (: sorry harbeck !

QUESTION #5: a) What is the area of each square attached to the legs of the right triangle?
b) What is the area of the square attached to the hypotenuse?
c) What is the length of the hypotenuse?
ANSWER:
a.) 6 x 6 = 36
The length of the hypotenuse is 10 cm.
ANSWER:
ANSWER:
ANSWER:
a.) 6 x 6 = 36
8 x 8 = 64
b.)a² + b² = c²
6² + 8² = c²
( 6 x 6 ) + ( 8 x 8 ) = c x c
36 cm² + 64 cm² = c²
100 cm² = c²
The area of the square is 100 cm.
c.) √c² = √100 cm²
c = 10 cm
QUESTION #8:
The side view of a
ramp at a grocery
store is in the shape of
a right triangle. Determine the length
of the ramp, to the nearest centimetre.
a² + b² = c²
50² + 200² = c²
( 50 x 50 ) + ( 200 + 200 ) = c x c
2500 cm² + 40 000 cm² = 42500 cm²
√42500 cm² = 206 cmQUESTION # 11:
The right triangle below has a square
attached to its hypotenuse. What is the
perimeter
of the triangle? Give your
answer to the nearest tenth of a centimetre.
√914 = 30.2
a² + b² = c²
17² + b² = 30.2²
b² = 30.2 ² - 17²
b² = ( 30.2 x 30.2 ) - ( 17 x 17 )
b² = 912.04 cm² - 289 cm²
b² = 623.04
√b² = √623.04
b = 24.9
The perimeter is 72.1 m.
QUESTION #14:
What are the lengths of b and c? Write your answer to the nearest tenth of a metre where
appropriate.
ANSWER:
FIRST TRIANGLE:
a² + b² = c²
3² + b² = 5²
b² = 5² - 3²
b² = ( 5 x 5 ) - ( 3 x 3 )
b² = 25 m² - 9 m²
b² = 16 m²
√b² = √16m²
b = 4 m
SECOND TRIANGLE:
a² + b² = c²
6² + 4² = c²
( 6 x 6 ) + ( 4 x 4 ) = c x c
36 m² + 16 m² = 52 m²
√c² = √52 m²
c = 7.2

QUESTION:
12. While shopping online, Ji Hun finds a square rug with an area of 11 m2. He needs to know if it will fit in his 4 m × 5 m bedroom.
a) Estimate the side length of the rug, to one decimal place.
b) Check your estimate with a calculator.
c) Will the rug fit? Explain.
ANSWERS:
a.) 3 x 3 = 9
4 x 4 = 16
9 is closer to 11. But in this question, they're looking for side length.
Since the side length of 9 is 3, we'll use 3 for our whole number.
3. ___
c.) Yes, the rug will fit because the sides of the rug is smaller than the size of his room.

From Drop Box |
Now, we just need to find out one decimal to replace the blank. To find the answer to that, count the intervals between 9 and 11.
11 - 9 = 2
The estimated answer will be, 3.2 m
b.) By using my calculator, I multiplied 3.2 by itself to check it.
3.2 x 3.2 = 10.24
To find the whole number and one decimal place, use your calculator and find the square root of 11.

QUESTION : Carmen wants to mount an 18 x18 cm square picture on a square board that is four times of the area of the picture.
a) What is the area of the picture?
I answered 324 cm because when you square 18 it totals to 324.
b) What is the area of the board?
For now, I know that the board is 4 times the area of the picture, and so I multiplied 324 to 4 and so the answer is 1296.
c) What are the dimensions of the board?
I answered 36 because if you will find the square root of 1296 the answer will be for sure 36.
If you're having trouble with finding the square root or having troubles with squaring a number, here our some links and videos to help you out.
