Reflection for 2 minutes





2. My group made a lot of changes to our video. Our first video was very.. plain. We introduced our topic with us talking and some subheadings of what we were saying. There was no music throughout our video. It seemed.. boring. We listed to our peers and changed up our video for the final draft. For our final draft, we added pictures of Global Warming and Green house gases. Also, in our interview with Kristina Hunter we added a caption of what she was saying and took out the picture. Our first draft also had no talking, so we added that with the music.

3. We found our expert at the University of Winnipeg, Kristina Hunter. We thought we wouldn't be able to find someone to talk to about this problem throughout the world, but we made some phone calls and found her! Our expert Kristina Hunter added a lot to our project. She was a big help! She answered a lot of the questions we had for her and added to the knowledge that we already know. She gave us some interesting facts about how Insects can effect us in Winnipeg if the weather gets hotter. We had a 30 minute interview with her over the phone. She gave us as much information as possible. This gave us a variety of things that she said, to choose from so that it could be in our project!

5. Our greatest success in our movie was the advice on what you can do to help! Because you may not know it, but you ARE making a difference by doing those things. It might not seem like much, but it is. I think our most favorite and our peers favorite also was the PTFO (Pee Twice Flush Once) Karen Sule decided that it would be a good idea to include that in our video, since we all do it! In the future, I will learn how to use movie maker properly so that we could put music and us talking at the same time. Without the music it seemed very.. bare. I think having music would've made our project flow better.

6. A lot of things stressed myself and my group. If our project was like google docs, where more than one person could work on it together, it would be so much better! We always had to stare time after school to work on it. Also, finding how to put music and talking at the same time stressed us out. Putting the slides together was the easy part. But editing it was stressing. Finding pictures was also stressing because on Flickr there were barely any pictures for our topic. To be successful, my group got together all 3 of us to work on it. All together, so that if we made changes to the movie, we would all agree on it. This really helped us choose on what and what not we want in our movie.

7. 2 minutes project is important because it shows that just 2 minutes of your time can make a difference in the world! Not even 2 minutes, sometimes even 2 seconds like throwing out a can into the recycling bin! It sure doesn't take 2 minutes to put a project together. But it can take 2 minutes to do a good deed for our world and the people around us!!

8. I am already trying to make a difference in the world and am still making a difference. Even the people around me like my family! We recycle instead of the waste going all to land mills. I turn off the faucet when brushing my teeth. I try not to use too much water while showering and also try not to litter. I remind myself that by me not doing such things I am making a difference. I want to walk and see the ground instead of walking on litter. I would like the see the beauty around me. This motivates me to keep making a difference.

To figure out this question I would..
use BEDMAS to tell where the Square Brackets go.
B: Brackets
E: Exponents
D: Division
M: Muliply
A: Addition
S: Subtraction

So, using this I would..

(+5) x (-3) + [(-6) ÷ (+3)]=
You find out the answer that is in the brackets.
[(-6) ÷ (+3)]= -2

Then just add on the rest of the question..
(+5) x (-3)= -15

SOOOO.....
-15 + (-2)= -17

Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 Reflection

The unit that I enjoyed the most and though I did my best on was Surface Area of triangles, cylinders, and rectangular prisms. It was pretty frustrating having to keep on re-writing the formulas. But I got used to it and realized that I understood it even more when I wrote them!

The thing I most struggled on was drawing nets for rectangular/triangular prisms. To make it easier for me, I would break up the shape into the top, front and side views. Also, I struggled on converting percents or decimals into fractions.

Next term, I would like to bump up my third term mark for math even more! Maybe even into the 90s. But my goal all depends on how much I study, work hard, and participate in class.

This term, I learned how to combien and compare percents. Also, how to see what would be the better deal by using them. For surface area, I learned how to find the TSA and how to draw nets. And most importantly, how to draw the net of a cylinder... the CORRECT way. Now for volume. I learned that every shape has a different formula to find the volume of it, also that volume has an exponent of 3.

Thessa's Final Percent Post

Percent is out of 100. It's another name for hundredths.

4.1 Key Ideas- To represent a percent, you can shade squares on a grid of 100 squares
called a hundred grid. One completely shaded grid represents 100%. To represent a percent greater than 100%, shade more than one grid. To represent a fractional percent between 0% and 1%, shade part of one square. To represent a fractional percent greater than 1%, shade squares from a hundred grid to show the whole number and part of one
square from the grid to show the fraction.

4.2 Key Ideas- Fractions, decimals, and percents can be used to represent numbers
in various situations. Percents can be written as fractions and as decimals.

4.3 Key Ideas- You can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling,
and dividing by ten to find the percents of some numbers. To calculate the percent of a number, write the percent as a decimal and then multiply by the number.

4.4 Key Ideas- Percents can be combined by adding to solve problems. You can add the combined percent amount to the original number. Percents can be used to determine amounts that result from consecutive percent increases or decreases. You can multiply the original number by a single percent greater than 100.

Thessa's Pay it Forward

Part 1:
Pay it Forward started with a boy named Trevor. He thought that if he could help 3 other people, those 3 could help another 3 people, and so on instead of owing them. It's like a chain.



Part 2:
Our act of kindness started this weekend where we were helping out my mom and dad with Jackie. We decided to take care of her for a couple of hours. Also, we spread the word about Pay it Forward, so that others could pitch in too! We chose taking care of Jackie because I thought my parents should have a little quality time together, since they don't have much of that now a days.

Part 3:
Our act of kindness went pretty well. I honestly thought it was going to be hard taking care of her. But with more than two hands, we did a good job entertaining her, feeding her and even changing the surprise in her diapers. When I asked my mom if we could take care of Jackie she was very surprised and happy at the same time! Out of all the things we could've done, we decided to help her and my dad. She was very thankful :) When we were handing out cards, we did not ask people to pay it forward, but we did tell people what we're doing and hoped that they would join us too!

Part 4:
This idea is important because,
Just one person can make a difference in the world!

Square Numbers & Square Roots

Focus on...
[  ] determine the square of a whole number.
[  ] determine the square root of a perfect square.

square number is the product of the same 2 numbers.
ex. 3x3= 9 so, 9 is the square number.














Continue your Perfect Square Chart all the way until 30! It will be for homework! 

Also, your other piece of homework is the long white, blank sheet.
If you forgot what to do on that sheet here are instructions:
- On the lines mark 1 and a half CM, 25 times.
- Since there are only 25 marks, you will only get to 5x5=
So on your sheet, you will be marking:
1, 2, 9, 16, and 25. Because it is the answers to 1x1 - 5x5.

I'm sorry if it sounded confusing, I tried my best to explain it!

Rate: Compares 2 quantities measured in different units. (3km/4 hours)
unit rate: A rate where the second rate is one. (7 letters/1 minute)
unit price: Used when shoppping. ($o75/1ml)

Proportional Reasoning: A relationship that says that 2 rates or ratios are equal. It can be written in fraction form.

Thessa's Math Profile

Ey, my name is Thessa Baldo-Oduca and I am a grade 8 student as SPS. If you were to ask me if I liked math, I'd honestly say no. Math is one of my weak subjects in school and I sometimes have a hard time understanding it. One of the best things I've done in math class was using smiley faced erasers to learn how to add and subtract when I was younger. It was a very fun activity that I always looked forward too.

One of the best units I studied last year in grade seven would have to be finding the Measurements of Tendency. Like the mean, median, mode, range and outliers. It was the most easiest because it was either simple math or an obvious answer. The unit I most struggled in was Translation, Reflection and Rotation. I knew the definitions, but I did not know how to show it on the coordinate grid. Also, to not struggle in math this year, I will ask more questions when I don't understand the topic, study more and harder, and do my work/homework on time. 

This year for grade 8 I will raise my hand if I know the answer, pay attention instead of socializing, ask questions if I do not understand , help others when they need help, study hard, and do my homework to become a successful math student. Also, I'm up for learning anything new! :) Just as long as Mr. Harbeck explains and gives real life explains to the topic we're learning! 

Last year, my favourite post I did was on Random.
Blogging helped me become a better student because I remembered definitions more. And if I forgot to bring my study sheets home, I could just look on the blog and study from there! Also, if I missed a day of school, I would know what my classmates did in class because of the blogs. In math when we are on the computers, I would like to go on some websites online and play some math games. It would make math more fun!
