Chapter 1 INTEGERS

Grade 7 Review:
- Number line
- Integer chips
- O = POSITIVE 1
- O = NEGATIVE 1
- positive and negative numbers
- zero pairs OO

Chapter 2 MULTIPLYING INTEGERS

Sign Rule:

Even: When you have an even number of negative factors the product is POSITIVE

Odd: When you have an odd number of negative factors the product is NEGATIVE

Chapter 3 DIVIDING INTEGERS

*When you have an odd number of negatives in a division question the quotient is negative*

Chapter 4 ORDER OF OPERATIONS WITH INTEGERS
Brackets
Exponents
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction
(+5) x (-3) + (-6) / (+3) =
first you always follow BEDMAS!
so division is first in the question
after you do the muliplication
and finally you do the addition so it should look like this:
and p.s always re write the question.
(+5) x (-3) + (-6) / (+3) = ( -17)
(+5) x (-3) + (-2)
(-15) + (-2)
(-17)

Term 2 Reflection

Listen!

Term 2 reflection
Hi, my name is Casey Younger and i’m a grade 8 math student, and Term 2 was pretty good for me. I found out that the chapters this term were a lot easier then last term. I also went up 8 percent for my term 2 mark. I also did well on all my tests, I would get around 80-100 %, the chapter i found the easiest was finding the surface area of shapes.

A chapter I had troubles with was Volume, but when I re wrote my notes, everything made sense and i got 18/19 on my Volume test. Another thing i had a little bit of troubles in was remembering the formulas. But I know them all now.

I will do better next term by, studying for tests more, doing more of the textbook work, commenting on blogs, making more blogs, and working really hard to understand the chapters if I don’t understand them.

What I learned about Percent, Surface Area, and Volume is how to do the work, and that those chapters can effect me in real life, because a lot of people use percent for finding out test scores.

Casey's volume post 3, 9, 11

3. a) area of the basexheight

15 cm2 x 4 cm = 60 cm3

b) area of the basexheight

18 cm2 x 12 cm = 216 cm3

c) area of basexheight

96 cm2 x 20 cm = 1920 cm3

9. There are four ways to build a rectangular prism from 16 cm cubes.

11. area of the basexheight

10.4 cm2 x 9 cm = 93.6 cm3

p.s. sorry for no videos they would not work on my computer

a) v= (pi x r x r) x h b) v= (pi x r x r) x h

v= ( 3.14 x 5 x 5) x 23 v= (3.14 x 14 x 14) x 12

v= 78.5 cm2 x 23 cm v= 615.44 cm2 x 12 cm

v= 1805.5 cm3 v= 7385.28 cm3

c) v= (pi x r x r) x h

v= (3.14 x 0.5 x 0.5) x 1.5

v= 0.785 cm2 x 1.5 cm

v= 1.1775 cm3

Answer: 45 cm long, because they both have the same volume.

Winnipeg Harvest

What I learned at Winnipeg Harvest was how they help out many families, and how they have 2 buildings, where the volenteers work and where the food is stored. Winnipeg Harvest helps homeless people and people below the poverty line. Winnipeg Harvest gets the food from people, stores/companies, and checks that some companies give them. the top 10 things on the Winnipeg Harvest list are:
1) Canned fish or poultry.
2) Canned fruit and vegetables.
3) Canned stew, chili, and brown beans.
4) Peanut butter.
5) Baby food.
6) Whole grain/wheat pasta.
7) Rice.
8) Canned spaghetti sauce or tomatoes.
9)Cereal.
10) Canned soup.
When I volenteered at Winnipeg Harvest we made family packages and you had to put some kind of pasta, canned meat, canned fruit or vegetable, then a canned soup. Personally I enjoyed volenteering at Winnipeg Harvest because it made me feel like I helped out with a problem that could possibly be over.

Casey's final percent post.

Percent means out of 100.

4.1 Key Ideas: To represent a percent you can use 100 grids. One shaded grid that has all the squares shaded in represents 100%. To show a percent that is larger then 100% you shade in more then on grid. To represent a percent between 0% and 1% you shade in a part of one square.

4.2 Key Ideas: Fractions, decimals and percents can be used to represent numbers in various situations. Percents can be written as fractions and decimals.

4.3 Key Ideas: You can use some mental math stratagies such as doubling, halving, or dividing by 10 to find percents of some numbers.

4.4 Key Ideas: Percents can be combined by adding to slove problems. You can add teh combined percent amount to the original number. Percents can be used to determine amounts that result from consecutive percent increases or decreases. You can multiply the original number by a single percent greater then 100.

Caseys Pay It Forward.

Part 1:
Trevor says, that pay it forward is when you help like 3 people and then they help 3 more people and it is kind of like chain.
Part 2:
My pay it forward act of kindness was going door to door with Diana and Tonie to ask for dontaions for the Christmas Cheer Board. We choose this activity because we want everyone across Manitoba to have a very merry christmas, and also because we dont think it is fair that only some families get a christmas dinner. We help the Christmas Cheer Board by donating around $80 dollars. We did our act of kindness on December 16th 17th and 19th 2010.

Part 3:
Our act of kindness went really well, we feel that we have given atleast 3 familes a christmas supper. Personally I felt really proud of Diana, Tonie and I because even though we rasied $80 dollars we still helped out alot of people and maybe the people we told to pay it forward will. When we went door to door some people were kind of shocked that 3 girls are outside in -25 weather tring to help the Christmas Cheer Board, and the staff at the Christmas Cheer Board were very thankful for our donation. Yes, we did ask a couple of people to pay it forward because we wanted everyone to know, that if you pay it forward you can be helping ALOT of people. Some reactions people gave us were excited, and ready to go pay it forward, and some were just like sure that sounds like fun.
Part 4:
I think that the idea pay it forward is important because without some people paying it forward we would probably have alot of homeless people outside, and people who would do anything for food, to be honest I think that we really dont need anymore of that because sadly we already have abit pf that in Canada. I belive that our act of kindness has made a difference because we raised $80 dollars for the Christmas Cheer Board, and if we didnt that would just mean that the Christmas Cheer Board would have however much money they have minus $80 dollars.
and please remember to PAY IT FORWARD :)

Casey's Math Profile

Heeyooo, My name is Casey Younger, and I am a math student in grade 8. If someone were to ask me if I liked math, I would probably say no, not really because I am not the kind of person who enjoys doing math I would usually just use a calculator. The best thing I have ever done in math class would be learning about fractions, because they have helped me alot in life so far.

Last year in grade 7 my best unit I studied would be Adding and Subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. I did well in this unit because I understood the notes Mr.Isfield gave us. The unit that made me struggle last year would be algebra, this year I could pay more attention to whats going on in class so I wont struggle so much.

This year in grade 8, I will pay more attention, ask for help more often and keep on task so I can be a more successful grade 8 math student. The thing I want to learn this year would be, Algebra, and more Probability.

The favorite blog post I did last year would be http://homeworkpackage.blogspot.com/ . Blogging helped me become a better student because, it made me more organized. What I want to do on the computer this year in math would be making math videos and posting them on the blog.
