Chapter 1

Grade 7 Integer Review

(+4) + (-2) = +2
Positive (4) and Negative (2) = positive 2
have 4 and owe 2 = have 2
Standard Form: 4 - 2 = -2
Making zero pairs:

-16 = +16, -5 = + 5, +6 = -6, -2 = +2,

-10 = +10, +3 = -3, +11 = -11, -9 = +9

Chapter 2 Multiplying Integers

Sign Rule:
Even: When you have an even amount of Negative factors, the product is Positive.
Odd: When you have odd amount of
Negative factors, the product is Negative.

(+2)x(-3)=
2 groups of (-3)= -6

Chapter 3 Dividing Integers

Sign Rule:
If you have no negative or an even amount of negative signs in a division question, the quotient is positive.


There are 2 types of division:

Partitive Division:
Making parts

EX:
6/2=3

6/-2=-3

Quotative Division:
Sharing you total with groups

EX:
(-6)/2=-3

(-6)/-2=+3

Brackets
Exponents
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction

(+5) x (-3) + (-6) / (+3) first you always follow BEDMAS so division is first in the question
after you do the multiplication and finally you do the addition.
example.

(+5) x (-3) + (-6) / (+3) = ( -17)

(+5) x (-3) + (-2)

(-15) + (-2)

A percent means out of 100 it can be represented as a decimal or fraction.
example - 25% means 25 out of a 100 and , or 25/100 or 0.25

4.1 Representing Percents
To be able to represent a percent you need to use a grid chart out of 100, one shaded grid chart means that all the squares shaded in represents 100%. If you want to show a percent that is larger than 100% you need to shade in more then one grid chart. To represent a percent between 0% and 1% you would shade in one square.
Fractional Percent - A percent that includes a portion of a percent.
example - 1/2%, 0.42%, 73/8%, 3/4%, 4.5%

4.2 Fractions, Decimals, & Percents
Fractions, decimals, and percents can be used to represent numbers in many ways.
Percents can be written as fraction as decimals.
example - 1/2% = 0.5% 0.5% =
0.5/100 = 0.005
150%=
150/100
=1.5 or 11/2
423/4%=42.75% 42.75%=42.75/100 =0.4275


4.3 Percent of a Number
You can use strategies like doubling,halving, and dividing by ten to find the percent of the number.
To calculate the percent of a number, write the percent as a decimal and then multiply the number..

Part One :

Ratios:

Two term ratio ; Compares 2 quantities measured in the same units. (Eg A:B)
Three term ratio ; Compares 3 quantities measured in the same units.(Eg A:B:C)
Part to part ratio ; Compares different parts of a group to each other.(Eg A;B 2:4)
Part to whole ratio ; Ccompares one part of the group to the whole group. It can be written as a fraction, decimal, & percent.( A:all letters, 5:11)

Rates:Compares 2 quantities measured in different units.(Eg 4km/2hr)
Unit rate ; A rate where the second rate is 1.(Eg 10 letters/ 2hr)
Unit price ; Used when shopping.(Eg $o35/1mL)

Proportional Reasoning: A relationship that says that 2 rates or ratios are equal. It can be written in fraction form.(2/3 = 6/9. (x3)

Chris's Math blog

Hi my name is Chris I'm a grade 8 student. If someone asked me if I like math I would say no because I'm really bad at it and I really dislike it. When I do math questions i get confused or i mess up on it. The best thing I ever did in a math class was working in a group or with a partner because if one of us gets it wrong we can work together to help that one person or we can correct each other.


In grade 7 the best thing I ever studied was the coordinate grid. When I first learned about it i got confused then when we got to the middle of studying it I started to get it. It made sense and was easy. I did well in this unit because are teacher would give us a negative number and a positive number then we will find it on either quadrant. The unit i struggled in was pie because when we divide or multiply i would get confused. The thing i would do to make me struggle less is study more for the quiz and tests.


For grade 8 this year i will study for quizzes and tests and ask questions on the hard or confusing questions. I will pay attention in class.
